With Spain Under-19s coasting to a 3-1 win over England in the European Championship semi-finals, Jose Luis Astiazaran outlined what he calls the "fidelity strategy" which has led to 77 per cent of the players in La Liga being eligible for the national Spanish team.
The contrast with England, where just over 40 per cent of Premier League players would qualify for the national team, could hardly be more stark.
